It’s not just plastic.
I get asked all the time, “why are Spectacles so expensive, isn’t it just a piece of plastic?”.
This can be a very difficult question to answer. There are many things to consider, such as time spent dispensing the eyewear, the amount of on-going education for a qualified Optical Dispenser; but if we just consider the two most tangible things — The Frame and The Lens; you will hopefully see where your valuable dollar goes.
When it comes to very good quality frames, these can often have parts made from quality metals such as Stainless Steel and Titanium or handmade components such as cellulose acetate.

For great quality lenses, these will often be custom made, based on your Optical Prescription from your Optometrist, Position of Wear measurements; which is how your frame sit on your face. Optical Laboratories also greatly invest in Research and Development so they can offer new lenses and coatings to ensure you always have the best vision possible and at the same time; reduce their environmental impact.
