What is an Optical Dispensary?
An Optical Dispensary is a place where individuals can obtain corrective eyewear like glasses, contact lenses and associated accessories, often after receiving a prescription from an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
An Optical Dispensary often does not offer Optometry services and has a special interest area in Eyewear and the latest in Optical Lens technology.

What is an optical dispenser?
An Optical Dispenser is a professional in the eye care field who specialises in interpreting optical prescriptions and fitting and servicing optical appliances, primarily glasses. They usually work closely with optometrists, who provide the prescriptions, to help patients choose appropriate frames, lenses, and ensure a proper fit.
Interpreting prescriptions:
A Qualified Optical Dispenser is trained to understand and translate the information on an optometrist's prescription, including lens type, power, and other specifications.
Frame and lens selection:
They assist patients in selecting frames that suit their facial features, prescription, and lifestyle, and guide them in choosing suitable lens materials and coatings.
Fitting and adjustments:
Optical dispensers are skilled in taking facial measurements and adjusting frames to ensure a comfortable and accurate fit, which is crucial for optimal vision correction.
Servicing optical appliances:
They can also repair and service existing spectacles, ensuring they continue to function properly.
Collaboration with optometrists:
Optical Dispensers can work as part of an eye care team, collaborating with optometrists who conduct eye exams and prescribe corrective lenses.

Where are you located?
Spex in the City Optical Dispensary is currently operates out of a share office located at Shop 2, 890 Beaufort Street, INGLEWOOD 6052. Enter via Upbeat Digital and The Drafter.

How do I obtain my Optical Prescription?
Your Optical Prescription is valid for 12-24 months, dependent on your recall.
Optometrists are required by law to provide your prescription after an eye examination. If you would like assistance obtaining a copy, I am more than happy to help - Click here to complete a prescription release authorisation.

Do I need to make an appointment to visit the store?
Walk in’s are welcome, however appointments are highly encouraged and prioritised. It allows me to allocate time dedicate to just you.

Can I reuse or supply my own frame?
Yes, you can re-use or supply your own frame. It does attract a $40 reglaze fee (the cost of labour to cut and fit lenses). I also advise that supplying your own frame is at your own risk. I will always assess the frame to ensure it is suitable. However, there is always a risk that the frame may break. I will always help where I can to find a substitute at your own cost. However, due to age or brand I may not be able to assist.

Can I claim any of your products with my Private Health Insurer?
We offer on the spot HICAPS claiming on all of our Prescription Eyewear* and Optical Lenses.
*Please note that due to Health Fund Rules, we cannot claim on Non-Prescription Sunglasses or Frame only purchases. Health Fund rebates can be claimed directly with your health insurer after prescription lenses have been fitted.

Can I cancel my order once I have made payment?
When you have made full payment on your Spectacles, they will be ordered as soon as possible. Due to the bespoke nature of Spectacles, your order cannot be cancelled.

How long does it take for me to receive my new Spectacles?
We ask that you allow approximately 2 weeks to receive your new spectacles. As we take pride in our work, if our lenses do not pass our Quality Control process it may affect the time frame and you will be notified of any delays.

Do you offer eye exams?
This is a service that we currently do not offer. But we are more than happy to recommend a few of our favourite Optometrists.

Do you offer Children's Spectacles?
At this stage we are offering frames for our Adult clients, however; if there is any demand for a children's range, please let us know! We LOVE children's eyewear. Our current ranges are more suitable for 16+ years. We are able to fill your child's prescription if you supply a frame.

What warranties do you offer on your prescription eyewear?
A 12 month warranty from the date of purchase on frames and lenses against manufacturing faults or defects.
Your frames or lenses will be repaired or replaced, if the manufacturer determines your eyewear to be faulty or defective.If the same product has been discontinued or is no longer available, then you may be offer an exchange for a similar product of equal value.
