LENS TREATMENTS

  • Anti-Reflection Multi-Coat (AR/MC)

A multi-layered film applied to lenses to minimise light reflection and maximise light transmission, dramatically reducing glare, improving clarity, and allowing others to see your eyes better, making vision sharper, especially at night or when on digital devices. It is often paired with a UV filter for some UV Protection, Hard Coating for scratch resistance and Oleophobic and Hydrophobic properties to aid clean-ability.

This coating is included in all lenses supplied by Spex in the City Optical Dispensary.

ZEISS AR - Duravision Platinum, Duravision Gold

    CR Labs AR - Satin+, Satin+ Tint, Satin+Vogue

HOYA AR - Meiryo Diamond Finish

  • BLUE LIGHT FILTER (BLF)

Blue light filters are designed to reduce blue light from digital devices, potentially easing digital eye strain and improving sleep by blocking melatonin-disrupting light. May cause slight colour distortion

ZEISS BLF - Duravision Blue Protect UV, ZEISS BluePro (built into the substrate of the lens, reducing colour distortions)

CR Labs BLF - Satin+ Blue

    HOYA BLF - BlueControl

  • Driving Coatings

Designed to reduce glare and enhance vision in low-light conditions, particularly when night-driving by selectively filtering disruptive blue light wavelengths.

This helps reduce glare, improve contrast, and provide a more relaxed night time viewing experience, whether on the road or in dimly lit environments.

ZEISS Driving Coating - ZEISS DriveSafe (Paired with Single Vision and Progressive DriveSafe Lenses)

CR Labs Driving Coating - Satin+ Night

  • UV Filter

UV filters for spectacles use special coatings or materials to block or absorb harmful UVA and UVB rays, preventing long-term eye damage like cataracts and growths such as Pterygium’s. Offering protection at 400 nanometers (UV400) for comprehensive coverage.

These filters are crucial for both prescription glasses and sunglasses, available as built-in features in materials like polycarbonate or applied as a coatings, ensuring clear vision and eye health year-round, even on cloudy days.

  • Photochromic Lenses

Photochromic lenses are lenses that automatically darken when exposed to UV in the outdoors and turn clear indoors, acting as both regular glasses and sunglasses in one pair, offering convenience and 100% UV protection. Often with Blue Light Protection Properties.

Available in various colour ways, polarising and resting colours.

ZEISS Photochromics - Photofusion X, Adaptive Sun and Adaptive Sun Polarised

CR Labs Photochromics - Transitions, Transitions XtrActive, Transitions XtrActive Polarised, Silque

HOYA Photochromics - Sensity, Sensity Dark, Sensity Fast, Sensity Shine

  • Polarising

Polarised lenses have a special filter that blocks intense horizontal light waves, which cause glare from surfaces like water, snow, or roads, offering clearer vision, reduced eye strain, and better contrast, making them ideal for driving, fishing, and snow sports, while also providing UV protection.

Unlike regular sunglasses that just darken, polarising specifically targets and eliminates glare, improving comfort and safety by preventing temporary blindness and improving depth perception, though they can make some LCD screens hard to see.

  • Sun Tints + Fashion Tints

Sun Tints colour the lens to filter light, with common options like grey (natural colour), brown (better contrast for driving) and green (good all-around), affecting brightness and clarity; the key is choosing a darkness level for your activity and ensuring they have UV400 protection, which blocks harmful rays, not just darkness.

Fashion Tints let you express your personal style while delivering essential UV protection. Available in a wide array of contemporary colours and customisation options, Fashion Tints elevate your look.

  • Solid + Flash mirrors

A solid mirror lens has a high-intensity, opaque reflective coating that fully hides the eyes and reflects significantly more light while a flash mirror is a lighter, less-dense coating that provides a subtle, transparent mirror effect, allowing some visibility of the eyes and making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, especially with photochromic lenses

Available in a variety of colourways.

ZEISS Mirrors - Duravision Mirror UV, Duravision Flash UV

CR Labs Mirrors - Satin+ Mirror, Satin+ Flash

    HOYA Mirrors - Hoya Mirror
